Police Partners UNODC to Train Image Managers, CRU Officers on Effective Complaint Management

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Friday trained its Image Managers and officers of the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) on effective complaint management.

The training program which was in two batches was held at the BWC Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the approval of the training is a testament to the Inspector General of Police (IGP’s) zeal to enhance mutual relations between the public and the NPF.

It also stated that the training which had in attendance the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO) and officers of the Complaint Response Unit from some states of the Federation and the Force Headquarters, Abuja revolved around enhancing the capacity of police personnel to handle complaints more effectively, ensure timely responses, and improve overall public trust in the Police.

The program covered key areas such as communication strategies, complaint handling procedures as well as the importance of transparency and accountability in policing.

The UNODC National Programme Officer on Anti-Corruption; Police Oversight and Accountability Project, Chukwuma Uma Ume, commended the Police for its commitment to improving complaint management.

Ume emphasised the significance of training programs in fostering a culture of accountability and responsiveness within the Police.

On his part, the Police PRO, Adejobi who represented the IGP addressed the officers during the second batch of the training on the mandate of IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

Adejobi stressed the critical role of proactive complaint management in the dispensation of justice – and urged the officers to prioritize the concerns of the public.

He also encouraged them to act swiftly and judiciously in addressing the masses’ complaints in line with the IGP Egbetokun’s zero tolerance policy for corruption and unprofessional conducts among police officers.
